This is my take without looking at any dictionaries:

It’s a concept which implies the edge of something or where one things stops and/or another begins.

Boundaries can have varying characteristics. Some are harder than others (i.e. the ease at which things can pass through), and some are fuzzier than others (i.e. it’s hard to pinpoint the exact boundary of the boundary. Yes that is recursive :P).
